Remove any dead, broken, or diseased branches. This improves the tree’s overall health and helps prevent storm damage as Queensland can experience intense weather, including heavy rain and winds during autumn.
Thin out dense canopies to allow more light and air circulation. This reduces the chance of fungal infections and encourages healthier growth in spring.
Autumn is the time when some pests begin to move into trees to prepare for cooler weather. Fungal diseases, like root rot and powdery mildew, are also a concern in the moist autumn conditions.
Use organic forest mulch around the base of trees to help retain moisture and regulate soil temperature as the weather cools. Mulch also helps suppress weeds that may compete for nutrients.
